If you've considered trying your hand at raid leading, we have an opportunity for you. I n the near future we would like to hold an open "try out" for potential new leaders. FYI this can be a very frustrating job with almost no reward except for your own personal satisfaction from the goals you have set for yourself.
The raid leader takes responsibility for everyone in a way. It's not just organizing a roster. It's having a deep knowledge of all boss encounters as well as difficult trash mobs.
You need awareness not only for yourself, but for others. As much as people should pay attention to their own DBM timers, debuffs...etc, sometimes you have to call this stuff out constantly throughout the fight so people don't tunnel vision. Basically you call the shots throughout the entire fight until the boss is dead, all the while making sure you are doing what you're supposed to be doing as well. It's a lot to keep track of for some people.
You also need to be aware of your other raid members class abilities. How and when to call for a raidwide cooldown such as heroism/timewarp, or calling for a battle rez, healing cooldowns, raidwide defensives, externals, personals...etc.
I'm not trying to scare anyone away from this job, but I want you to know how important it is going in. If it sounds like something you would enjoy, then please contact an officer and let us know.
I do offer my support to any raid lead, where I excel is the roster piece. My talents include looking at the roster to see what is needed, tanks, heals, and dps. Try to foster new raiders and be there to answer questions, post raids, open dialogue of communications raiders as needed. As far as leading the fights, not my strong suite but I will be there by your side supporting you and getting you the best team possible
I was asked how this was going to happen. Will it be with one of the current teams raiding right now? Will it be a raid where people need to sign up to come? I have been thinking on this and I think it is a good idea to have more raid leaders. This could open more times/days people could riad. It could also free up some people that have a hard time making the weekend raids. With what has been going on in the progression raid teams I think blizzard has no choice but to change the way raiding happens. It might not roll down to us, but there needs to be change. I know people like the flex raiding system and it has made it where people could raid in the guild and made it easier for the guild to get people item they would not get. I say move normal and heroic back to a fixed system. LFR is for those people that want to see the raid. As of now it does not look like the flex system will go away so we need more raid teams to be running. This will get raid leaders more freedom on running raids.
I personally can't see leading a raid unless it was a morning/mid-afternoon on a weekend. This is really the only time I have available without burning out on the game.
I find by 4 days of solid play time (Fri-Mon), I'm ready to not go on the game for a couple days. If a casual group wanted to do content on a Sat or Sun early day (for alts, I don't care), I'd help out with that.
It probably wouldn't be every weekend either because of RL.
