At this time I will not be raid leading in the next xpac. I feel that the flex raiding system has ruined raiding. To me it feel as though people can show up and leave anytime they want because the raid scales. If blizzard does not go back to a set number I will not be raid leading after this xpac. I will still raid. Just at this time it is hard to get a set raid team. It seems like every raid we have different people every time and have to relearn the fights with a new set up. In WoD we were always short tanks and there were only a couple of people that would tank for raids. This time we have the problem with healers it seems like we have too many are too few healers to raid. My other big issue is people would not mark if they are coming to the raid or will not be there. I do not like having to wait until the last minute to cancel a raid because that wastes everyone's time. It has been a fun run and I wish whoever raid leads next all the luck.
You have stepped when other's wouldn't and raid leading is hard and so is leading the guild, speaking from experience of doing both. What an amazing job you have and continue to do. Pantheon has benefited from your steadfastness and leadership. Let me know what I can do to help out with the raiding schedule for you. Happy to reach out to people and follow your direction. I do think people need to step up on the raids and know the fights at least watch a video and understand. Thank you for all you do
So let's start holding open try outs for raid leading. I can make a post listing what is expected from a raid leader. If anyone in the guild is interested in giving it a shot we can let them pick a boss encounter to try their hand at leading. If anyone stands out then maybe they can be promoted and take over the reigns when the time comes.
I agree with Stu's approach completely, and I can say that I also agree with Death's stance about our raid teams. I haven't felt like we've been a "team" in any sense. There has always been the "usual suspects" and you know who you are and I love raiding with you guys. However there are a bunch of fringe folks who seem to come and go at random and never seem to gel as a team.
In general this expac has been an exercise in frustration for me, so I can completely empathize with the way Death feels. So it's not a complete shock, I've been considering stepping down after this expac as well, it's been fun taking care of my fellow guildies but I think after 2 expacs I'm ready to take a little of my time back.
As a personal note, Death I want to thank you for all the great things you've done for me and Raimee. Teaching me to tank last expac not the least of which, but you also have a ton of patience with both of us, and generous with your time and advice. Tolerant when we travel and are gear poor and stinking. Overall you've been a dear friend and we would raid with you in any group.
Can I make a suggestion as well, maybe not just a designated RL but heal and dps lead as well? I know when we ran bigger groups we had someone in charge of dps and heals. From viewing prior raids on weekend Fri and Sat. I have seen Potato step up for DPS or Heals, as well as stormy of course. Last night I asked Taryn. Maybe coming to one or two key individuals and put them in charge of calling out etc? Like Stormy do Friday nights, Taryn Sat nights for heals. DPS--yeah I dunno here. In Sun Mon. I know that Val calls out for DPS, Joe Leads and Pan does healing rotation, cooldowns. Maybe this can help? Just my two cents.
